siddhachakra terrace

Ahmedabad, Gujarat 2017 -

A pavillion on the terrace of a 7 storey apartment, the design is conceived as a piece of furniture that allows for a multiplicity of functions. transforming it into

seat / dine / play / rest / light / shade / green

area for its users.

The body is made from a mild steel framework and clad with granite on all sides. Seating spaces are differentiated by the use of wood composite panels, while planters of quarry dust concrete are placed within the frames made by the box sections. Columns support a clear polycarbonate roof, and the entire structure is lightly lifted. A strip of lighting runs along it's legs, illuminating the floor below, to float the anchored pavilion above the surface. It's paradoxical nature continues; open to the sky while shaded, mutliple things to one and one to many; it a single entity in itself but provides for dialogue with the terrace on all its sides.
