Ahmedabad, Gujarat 2013
Placed in a site already filled with trees, this high rise uses a flexible steel frame to accommodate vegetation at lower levels, and for lightweight gains higher in the air. The mass of the building is concentrated at the north, housing 4 private bedrooms with private baths, while a vertical circulation tower cuts down harsh southwest sun beaming into the apartments. On the south east, a balcony projects to wrap around a three sided courtyard space that gives all luxury apartments ample connection to the outdoor while still sheltering them from light and noise from the sky above and busy street below. The main living space stretches from east to west. The mass of the tower dematerializes at its edges, as a vertical aluminium screen, braced for vegetation at each level, wraps the building, dappling the interior windows with fresh air and light.
